15 COUNCIL CHAIRMEN IN NIGER STATE RECOMMENDED FOR SUSPENSION.

Niger State House of Assembly has recommended the suspension of fifteen local government council chairmen from office to allow it’s conclude legislative assignment.

 

The recommendation of Suspension came after an interim report of ad-hoc committee investigating contract financing loan of twenty five local government Area presented by Chairman of the committee Malik Madaki Bosso.

The House explained that the recommendation of suspension was as a result of the interference of the council Chairmen affirmed that the said recommendation of suspension is inline with the Federal Republic of Nigeria nineteen ninety nine( 1999) as well as the provision of section ninety sub-section one A,B and C of the Local Government Law two thousand and one (2001) as amended.

It stated that the local government Chairmen recommended for suspension includes Mokwa,Gbako,Suleija,Gurara,Tafa,Paikoro,Bosso,Agwara,Borgu,Kontagora,Wushishi,Magama,Mariga, Mashegu and Rijau.

The Committee resolved that the sum of twenty four Million Naira deducted from each of the contract sum of the twenty five local government areas amounting to six hundred million be refunded.

In addition the House also resolved that the eight Million Naira each deducted from local government areas for loan repayment is suspended for failure of the Ministry to obtain House Resolution as provided in section ninety seven sub-section one of the local government law,two thousand and one(2001) as amended before the loan was obtained.

The House explained that the bank failed to provide schedule of loan repayment as well as  the Ministry’s refusal to give certified bank statement of account of it inflow from the federal account and its reserve fund account.
