Sustainable Environment: Dangote Introduces Cutting Edge Technology in Cement Production

Towards environmental sustainability, the Dangote Cement Company says it has introduced cutting edge Technology in trapping dust in the production of cement towards protecting the environment.

 

Adinoyi Haruna, General Manager, Human Resource, Dangote Cement Company made the disclosure at A 2 Day Environmental Journalism Workshop with the Theme; Reporting The Environment For Sustainability, holding in Dangote Academy, Obajana, Kogi State.

Similarly, Mr. Adinoyi said the Dangote Cement Company is deliberate in it commitment to protecting the environment, says it now uses electrostatic facilitators in handling particulate emissions from cement production.

He added that the Company also uses bag filters to collect cement dust, desclosed that the Dangote cement towards environmental sustainability now uses 85% of limestone in cement production.

The limestone initiative the General Manager explained is geared towards reducing fuel consumption and reduction of carbon dioxide into the environment in the production of Dangote cement.

Similarly, the General Manager explained that as a conscious effort to protect the environment, the Cement Company has introduced the use of alternative fuel by using agriculture waste, palm karnel shells, shredded tyres as fuel, aimed at reducing carbon dioxide in the environment

Mr. Adinoyi described the environment as all that people have before any other activities, therefore called for environmental sustainability, urged Journalists to commit themselves to the sustainability of the environment in their writings and attitude by doing all they can to protect the environment.

While pointing out that environmental sustainability calls for collective efforts, he said the protection of the environment should be a way of life, urged the media to play active roles in propagating issues relating to environmental sustainability.

Earlier in an opening remarks, facilitator of the workshop, Aliu Akoshile, of NatureNews/CAMIC, described the environment as a binding force for all of man’s activities, reason why journalists must take interest in reporting the environment.

The facilitator observed that as journalists, the workshop aims at broadning their horizon to report environment from the perspectives of their beats, urged the practitioners to appreciate their environment by writing towards sustainable environment.

The 2 Day workshop draws participants from Kogi, Benue, Niger, FCT and Kwara State on the importance of reporting the environment for sustainability.
