Scholarship/Educational Assistance: GHICF Invests N17.7M in Four Public Secondary Schools of Ayetoro Gbede, Igbaruku Communities.
The Global Health and Indigent Care Foundation (GHICF), a nonprofit foundation of Dr. Samuel Oloyo and Mrs. Julie Olufunmilola Oloyo based in the USA has made an intervention in Education and Community Development of four Public Secondary Schools of Ayetoro Gbede and Igbaruku Communities to the tune of N17.7M.
This intervention was made through 20 Students who came first position in the various STEM subjects and in the use of English in the Senior Secondary classes and in the four public secondary schools of Ayetoro Gbede and Igbaruku communities of Ijumu LGA of Kogi State who were awarded tablets to aid their education.
Similarly, another 65 students who won second and third positions in the Senior Secondary classes and 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions at the junior secondary classes in 4 public schools from Ayetoro Gbede and Igbaruku communities were also awarded school backpacks.
The various awards according to Mr. Richard Olonishuwa, the Chairman, Scholarship and Educational Assistance Program(SEAP) will encourage students and the respective school management to continue to strive for excellence in their study as well as motivate more students to study STEM related courses which will enable the citizens from the 2 communities to be exposed to advancement in science and technology.
Mr. Olonishuwa
made the disclosure at the third edition of award ceremony organized and sponsored by Global Health and Indigent Care Foundation (GHICF) a nonprofit foundation of Dr. Samuel Oloyo and Mrs. Julie Olufunmilola Oloyo based in the USA.
The Chairman added that, as a way of encouraging the spirit of healthy competition.
Thirty (30) STEM students of tertiary public institutions who met the criteria from 5 classes of courses of Engineering, Medicine, Health Sciences, Agriculture and Basic Sciences scholarship are to benefit from the sum of N5,400,000. as scholarship.
The Chairman noted that the aim of the scholarship and support programme is to encourage the study of STEM subjects at secondary schools and courses at the tertiary level in Ayetoro Gbede and Igbaruku communities.
“The scholarship programme also helps indigent students by providing financial assistance to alleviate the burden of payment of school fees and thereby giving more students access to education”.
“In the previous 2 awards, the focus was designed to principally assist the indigent students by paying the areas of school fees and also recognize applicants who excelled in their various studies”.
“This led to 496 awards to secondary students and 40 students who were awarded scholarship at the tertiary education in Ayetoro Gbede while a total sum of N1.5M scholarship was awarded to students from Igbaruku community”.
“This is aside from the annual intervention of N1,250,000 to Ayetoro Gbede Global Network in the payment of salary for STEM Teachers salary in the Community High School”.
“To this end, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in all the STEM subjects and the use of English language ; whose score were not less than 75% in the 4 public secondary schools were identified”.
“Awards Tablets to all the students who scored 1st position in their respective STEM subjects and the use of English Language at the SS classes, while school backpacks are provided to 2nd, 3rd positions in the SS classes and for 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in the JSS classes
Identified qualified tertiary applicants with 3.5 and above Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA).
Identified existing beneficiaries of the scholarship who graduated last year with up to 3.5 CGPA in the preceding academic year and provide a token cash award”.
“Provide cash awards to Teachers/Schools of any of the 4 public secondary schools whose graduating students have up to 70% credits in their STEM external exams”.
“As a way of motivating the staff of the schools management to pay more attention to quality teaching of students and progressively improve outcomes in external examination, the board approved a token of cash award to the schools based on the performance of their students in the respective external graduating exams. Where a school scores above 70% credits for their students in the registered STEM and English subjects, such school will be awarded N200,000 or otherwise prorated”.
In a remarks, Dr. Samuel Oloyo
President and CEO
GHICF, said the program is designed to identify candidates that excel in their academic performance focusing on the STEM subjects and use of English.
He further said the program caters for individuals who are financially challenged and would otherwise be hindered in the pursuit of their academic goals without financial assistance.
He expressed satisfaction that since the commencement of the program, it has helped individuals in their chosen careers, candidates earning first class degrees in their graduating exams as well as other several others excelling in their fields such as medicine and Engineering, described it as a fulfillment of the goals and objectives of GHICF.
He congratulated the recipients of the scholarship awards, equally congratulated their parents, commend the teachers on their roles in helping the students to achieve the great feat.
Dr. Samuel Oloyo expressed his profound appreciation to the pivotal role played by the SEAP committee in the successful execution of the program.
He particularly thank Mr. Richard Olonishuwa, Mr. Richard Akanmode, the Chairman and Secretary respectively as well as other members of the SEAP program for ensuring the success of the program.
Community High School, Government Secondary School and Universal Basic Education 2 from the communities won prizes for their impressive performances in the
WAEC, NECO and
BECE examination.
