The Old Students, Class of 1995 of ECWA Secondary School Mopa (ESSMO), Mopamuro Local Government Area, has donated exercise books and some teaching materials to their Alma mata.
Mr Femi Akele, the Coordinator, who presented the items to the school’s Principal on behalf of the old students, said the gesture was to give back to their alma mata to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their graduation from the school.
According to him, the 25th anniversary was scheduled for May 2020, but was hinderd by the COVID 19 pandemic that ravaged the world.
Akele thanked God for His benevolence on the lives of class members, and for the privilege to give back to the school where they graduated from 25 years ago.
He urged the students and teachers to make good use of the items and to remember that diligence, focus and determination would always take one to a greater height in life and career.
Dr Muyiwa Komolafe, a medical practitioner and a class member expressed optimism that the gesture would stir up the grit in each student and spur them to succeed in any positive endeavour the student wishes and make landmark impacts in the society.
Some of the old students, Mrs Folaranmi Popoola & Mrs Fehinti Roseline Kolade, in their separate comments, enjoined the students to face their studies squarely in order to make the school, their families and the nation proud.
They admonished the female students to gear up as equal partners in progress, national development and growth.
According to them, opportunities are not gender based but result oriented, and the world is awaiting their manifestations.
Responding on behalf of the school, Mr Ajisafe Kayode, the School Principal, appreciated the old students for the gesture and for remembering to give back to their alma mata.
The principal noted that the items would go a long way to help the students on effective learning as well as aiding the teachers on quality teaching in impacting knowledge to the students.
”We acknowledge God’s work here. Not long ago STESCOM directed all schools to start using marker boards instead of the old black board.
”We went to the marketers for survey(prises). We came back dejected and disappointed because the school can not afford the prises they gave us for six.
”We then resorted to ‘fate’. We were ready for their penalties anytime they come for monitoring and inspection.
”We never knew these 1995 set were thinking for us. For those of you reading this, this is the way God works. The lord works in wonders and answereth prayers when you least expect it”, he said.
He, therefore thanked the old students who were touching the life of the school and are still doing it.
Kayode further appealed urged other classes of old students of the school to emulate the gesture by giving back to their alma mata and complementing governments’ efforts in delivering quality education to citizenry.
Items donated included free 180 pieces of exercise books and three white teaching boards with markers.
