Kogi Water Board Keeps To It Promise, Releases Water to Lokoja Metropolis, But Shuts Down Supply, Owing to Several Broken, Vandalized Pipes

 

It was excitement and jubilation in some parts of Lokoja Metropolis  as the Kogi State Water Board today kept to it promise on the gradual release of Water from the old Lokoja Water Works to the metropolis.

The gradual release is to test run the new facilities and carry out trouble shooting exercise to identify areas that will require the Board’s urgent attention after a long period of none usage.

Recalled that following the collosal damage done to the Greater Lokoja Water by the 2022 flood, the facility had to be shut down as it was badly damaged.

To therefore ameliorate the sufferings faced by the citizens, Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo directed the repairs of the Old Lokoja Water Works.

Following the completion of the repairs on the Old Lokoja Water Works, a Gradual release of Pipe Borne Water to Lokoja Metropolis from the Old Lokoja Water works was promised today Friday 11th October, 2024 From 9:00am.

Recalled that the Old Lokoja Water Works was since abandoned in 2009, with the coming on board of the Greater Lokoja water works.

The gradual release of Water to the Metropolis however ran into a hitch today when the water was being test run with several noticed broken and vandalized pipes.

The Water Works noticed a collosal damage to several water lines, a situation that forced the shutting down of the release owing to the so much of wastage of treated water.

The Water Works has however begun the fixing of the broken and vandalized pipes with the promise to fix the broken pipes and continue with the supply of water tomorrow and the days after.

The Kogi State Commissioner For Water Resources, Engr Yahaya MD Farouk was on hand and in company of the General Manager, Kogi State Water Board, the Director, Dams and Reservoirs to inspect the flow of the water.

The Commissioner who walked round areas around Mount Patti road, Hillway Hotel Close, Emphasis Assembly Church, Federal Pay Office, Anguwan Tiv/New layout areas and other areas observed lots of burst pipes and leakages, leading to wastage and the flow of the water, consequently ordered the discontinuation of supply for the problems to be fixed.

The Commissioner however assured of continued release of water by tomorrow Saturday, still cautioned the general public to avoid consumption of the water for now as the reservoirs are still undergoing disinfection, cleaning.

The Kogi State Water Board says it will inform members of the public soon as the water is safe for consumption .
