Kogi Flood: HYPPADEC Distributes Food to Displaced Victims


 

The Kogi State Coordinator of Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, HYPPADEC, Engr. Mrs. Joan Oguche, has disclosed the positive impact the commission has made on the victims of the ongoing ravaging flooding across the state.

 

 

Led by the Kogi State Coordinator of HYPPADEC, Engr. Joan Oguche who visited various internally displaced persons camps, said the commission as a way of empathizing with the affected victims, and as a stop gap, is providing cooked food to displaced victims in Internally displaced camps in the affected areas.

 

While speaking with newsmen at the sidelines of the distribution of food in camps in Lokoja, Engr. Joan said the effort is aimed at cushioning the devastating effect on the people affected by the flood.

 

The Coordinator disclosed that following the urgency, came up with the idea to share cook food, but says efforts is on to provide the victims with raw foodstuffs or to also cook for them in the camp.

 

Engr. Joan expressed appreciation that the establishment of the Commission in the State has been a blessing to the State as it has registered its presence in mitigating the sufferings of the flood victims.

 

She commended President Mohammadu Buhari for making the dream come through by signing the commission into law, praised Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, for his tirelessly efforts in actualising the mandate of the Commission.

Aside the intervention for flood victims, disclosed that the Commission has embarked on free medical programme in HYPPADEC Local Government Areas of Kogi State since coming on board, pointing out that the intervention has gone a long way in assisting the citizens in no small measures in their health needs.

 

The Coordinator added that the Commission has equally carried out several empowerment programs with the aim of improving the well-being of the people, explained, that the Commission has begun a Youth Transformation Program aimed at empowering Youths in different skills of their choices, as about 700 Youths are presently undergoing training.

 

Engr. Joan added that the Commission has also assisted and empowered farmers living in the riverine areas with fertilizers, said the efforts is to aid increased production, adding that the Commission has also distributed bags of rice and other consumables to cushion the effect of poverty in HYPPADEC catchment Local Government Areas.

 

While pointing out that the Commission is equally concerned about security, Oguche further revealed that several motorcycles have been distributed to local Vigilantes to aid in securing the communities.

In the area of Education, Engr. Mrs Joan Oguche said the commission has concluded arrangements to pay the school fees of Tertiary Institution Students in the State who are from the catchment areas.

The Kogi State Coordinator disclosed that the Commission has paid the school fees of about 2000 students from the State as well as paid the WAEC/NECO fees of students in HYPPADEC Local Government Areas since inception
