Kogi state as is popularly called, is the confluence state; the meeting point of Nigeria two great Rivers, Niger and Benue. It is bounded by 10 states of the federation cutting across 4 Geo-political Zones and the FCT.
Kogi can best be described as the most central state in Nigeria, going by its location, and accounting for transporters in over 15 states using it as gateway to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and connecting the North and Southern part of Nigeria.
In recent past, there has a growing number of Road accidents in the various route across the state; the routes include, Lokoja – Okene road connecting the south south, Lokoja – Kabba road connecting the south west and the Lokoja – Anyigba road connecting the south East. With the high rate of vehicular movement in all of these route, the government has not thought it wise, to get these route dualised so as to reduce or bring the number of crashes to the bearest minimum. Even the Lokoja – Okene road dualisation project connecting Benin can best be described as an abandoned project.
I will suggest that, if the government is sincere about her constitutional responsibility, and the social contract for which it entered into with the citizens, which of course, is the provision of safety of lives and welfare, all the above mentioned route must be dualised without further delay, so as to save the live of motorists and commuters, as the people of the state have endured enough.
Enough of innocent lives been lost on our soil, owing to government’s inactions.
