Enrol children with disabilities in school and not keep them at home – Ex. Sec., Office of Disability, Kogi State.


 

A call has gone to parents to enroll their children with any form of disabilities in school and not keep them at home.

 

 

 

The Executive Secretary, Kogi State Office of Disability, Barr. Zacchaeus Dare Michael, made the call in a chat with newsmen, said enroling them in school would enable them to be educated.

He added that when in school aside acquiring education, it enables them to interact and overcome stigmatization and descrimination and to get use to the society.

Barr. Dare says evidences abound that people living with one form of disabilities are exceptionally brilliant and intelligent when in school, says keeping them at home comes with a lot of negative consequences and in most cases leads to street begging.

The Executive Secretary maintained that when educated and having vocational skills, it enables people with disabilities to be employed, disclosed that it is now a policy for people living with disabilities to enjoy 30% employment opportunities in all organization.

He disclosed that it is no longer acceptable for parents in the state to fail to enrol their children who are having one form of disabilities in school, said such offenses when discovered will soon lead to the arrest of such parents.

While pointing out that people living with disabilities can become anything in life, said evidences abound that they are doing well in their profession and careers.

The Executive Secretary urged the federal government to urgently look into establishing a fund through the CBN for funds to be accessed at zero percent interest rate.

The Executive secretary commended Gov. Yahaya Bello for giving the person’s with disabilities a voice in the state with the creation of the Disability Office, granting them employment in the civil service and for giving them appointments in his administration, described it as a measure and clear manifestation of his desires to integrate them into the society….
