COP 29: Kogi State Delegation Meets with African Development Bank, African Union Senior Climate change Advisor, Other Experts.

 

… Discusses strategy to mobilize resources, attract development to the State.

 

The Kogi State delegation to the 29th edition of Conference of Parties COP, yesterday seized the advantage of the Nigerian day to discuss how to mobilize resources and attract development to Kogi State.

COP is an annual United Nations Climate Change Conference that is this year holding in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Kogi State delegation led by the Kogi State Commissioner For Environment and Ecological Management, Engr Oluwasegun Joseph said the State delegation is committed to drive positive conversations at the conference as well as to compel action around climate action, sustainability targets, and the energy transition in the State.

The State delegation to the conference the Commissioner explained had a busy day at the Nigerian day as it had far reaching discussion with top-notch development partners and funders.

The Commissioner disclosed that all the meeting held with the experts and development partners is with a bid to attract funds for development in the State. He pointed out that thus far, the discussions have proven to be fruitful.

He added that the positive responses from the Baku meeting would help in mitigating the impact of climate change in the State and help in the development of critical Ecological sites.

The Commissioner and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Climate Change in one of the meeting with Prof. Tony Nyong of African Development Bank, sought ways to attract funds for the development of ecological management in the State.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Environment and the Special Adviser on Climate Change alongside other members of the delegation also had another crucial meeting with Dr. Sam Ogala, an indigene of Kogi State at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Dr Samuel Ogalah is the African Union Senior Climate change Advisor.

In their separate remarks, Prof. Tony Nyong of African Development Bank and Dr Samuel Ogalah, the African Union Senior Climate Change Advisor, said they are impressed with the commitment of the State Government in tackling climate change, assured of all the necessary support to enable the State carry out it laudable plans curbing ecological issues.

COP is a platform that provides governments from around the world the opportunity to discuss and agree on policies and actions towards tackling the climate change crisis.

This year’s Conference which is the 29th in the series is holding from November 11-22 2024

The Kogi State Government delegation to the Conference is made up of the Special Adviser on Climate Change Michael Onimisi Ajibade, PC Newmap -EIB, Dr Yahaya Abdulahi Abbas and the Project Coordinator, ACReSAL, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto OON.
