Start-Rite Schools Abuja has once again demonstrated its commitment to academic excellence and global citizenship, achieving remarkable success in two prestigious international platforms.
In the 2024 Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition (QCEC), organised by the Royal Commonwealth Society, Start-Rite students earned 4 Gold Awards, 2 Silver Awards, and 6 Bronze Awards.
According to a statement issued by the school’s Media and Communications Unit, “This year’s competition, which attracted 34,939 entries from across the Commonwealth, challenged students to reflect on the theme “Our Common Wealth”, exploring how community and culture can foster resilience in times of adversity.
“The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, established in 1883, is the world’s oldest international schools’ writing contest. It provides a unique opportunity for students to develop their writing skills while addressing some of the most pressing global challenges. Start-Rite’s exceptional performance not only reflects the dedication of the young writers but also underscores the school’s focus on holistic education that nurtures critical thinking and creativity.
“In a related achievement, 26 Start-Rite students earned the UNESCO Certificate from the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development, after successfully completing the Global Citizenship Education Course. This programme, made available through a partnership with the Global Citizenship Foundation, Estonia, equips students with the skills to engage with the world as responsible and informed global citizens.”
The statement indicated that the Chairman of the school’s Advisory Board, Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, in his reaction to the development, expressed his excitement about the students’ achievements.
Ndoma-Egba, who is the Pro-Chancellor/Chairman of Federal University Lokoja (FUL) was said to have reiterated Start-Rite’s commitment to becoming “The School” renowned for producing leaders who not only attain academic excellence but also cultivate character, competence, capacity, ethical awareness, and cultural understanding – essential qualities for thriving in today’s interconnected world.
“Start-Rite Schools, Abuja is immensely proud of its students and looks forward to celebrating many more achievements in the future,” the statement added.
