The Director of Environmental sciences and Technology, Federal Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation, Who is also the Director, Coordinating the National implementation program on the Methanol fuel Value Chain in Nigeria, Dr Peter Ekweozoh, mni, has reiterated the determination and Commitments of the federal government towards the the production and Consumption of Methanol as an alternative Sources of energy in the Country.
Dr Ekweozoh Disclosed this to the media in an interview at the Science Technology & Innovation Expo 2023, holding at the Eagle quare Abuja, between Monday January 16 – Friday 20, 2023, with the theme, Actualizing Effective Diversification of the Nigerian Economy Through Science, Technology and Innovation ( STI).
According to him, the objective of Methanol fuel Production Technology program was aimed at expanding the Chemical industry Value Chain through beneficiating the massive natural gas and biomass resources in Nigeria and strongly establish a thriving methanol fuel industry as a means of improving the Quality of automotive fossil based fuel transportation and power generation in Nigeria.
Speaking further,Dr. Ekweozoh, mni.noted that,they had Collaborated with about 15 federal ministries, Agencies and Departments ( MDAs), almost all the public Sectors are involved to ensure the actualization of Government policy on methanol production and Consumption in the Country.
He also added that, the Private Sector was not left out of the Government’s policies on Methanol fuel production technology, as the sector has undertaken to provide the modular refinery plants in the six geopolitical zones in the Country, saying that with the flag up of the full implementation plan,an indigenous company has been brought on board to go in to joint venture with an advance company in the area of Methanol Technology,and this would Catalytze the Consumption of Methanol in the Country.
He stressed that,the significance of the policy plan if fully implemented was that, it would help to drive many sectors of the nation’s economy,Some of the sectors according to him included, Transportation, 0il and Gas, Water resources, Manufacturing industry and Waste, which was key to Nigeria’s Compliance to the Paris agreement on Climate Change.
