Restore School Feeding program for the poor and hopeless children in Nigeria – Comr Sunday Jatto


 

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Humanitarian Services and Disaster Management, has been asked to do the needful and restore the school feeding program for the poor and hopeless children in Nigeria once again and unconditionally.

Comr. Sunday Jatto, Member, Amnesty International, USA, in a statement issued to Newsmen in Lokoja, said the school feeding program popularly known as National Home Grown School Feeding program, aimed at feeding children from poor parental home, who are in classes one to three, and direct beneficiaries has sinced stopped.

He described the school feeding initiative as a welcome development on the basis of good coordination, effectiveness, transparency and sincerity, reminded the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management for the program which suddenly ceased to begin.

While noting that the continued stoppage of the program on the excuse of the covid19 pandemic since last year even with the return of normalcy to schools is no longer tenable.

Comr. Jatto said in view of the fact that the hope of the defenseless, hopeless and poor children, who are the future of the nation, said their expectations to benefit from the national social Investment program should not be cut off automatically.

Comr Jatto therefore called on the Federal Government to keep faith with the International Convenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, Chapter 4, Section 33 to 43 (1999 Amended) of the Federal Republic Nigeria and relevant section of International Child Rights.
