Rep Akiba donates medical equipment worth millions of naira to 6 PHCs
The parliamentarian representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber, Rep Bassey Akiba, has made a donation of medical equipment amounting to millions of naira to six Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs).
According to a report attributed to the Bridge Media, “In a significant demonstration of his unwavering commitment to quality healthcare delivery, the Member representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Rep. Bassey Akiba, has made a groundbreaking donation of medical equipment worth millions of naira to six primary healthcare centres within his federal constituency. The benefitting primary healthcare centres include Akim, Nasarawa, and Akai Efa in Calabar Municipality as well as Akpap-Okoyong, Adiabo Efut, and Okurikang in Odukpani LGA.”
The report indicated that “At the official handover ceremony, Rep. Bassey Akiba, who was ably represented by the DG, BASSEY AKIBA FOUNDATION, Mrs. Precious Esse, reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to improving the health and well-being of his people through the Health Support Programme. He emphasized that access to quality healthcare is not a privilege but a fundamental right and that his leadership will continue to prioritize the health and welfare of the constituents.”
“Healthcare is the bedrock of a thriving society. This donation is part of my commitment to ensuring that our people, especially those in rural communities, receive the medical attention they deserve. These facilities will now be better equipped to handle emergencies, maternal care, and general health services,” Rep. Akiba was quoted to have said.
The Bridge Media report further disclosed that “The state-of-the-art medical equipment, including Hospital beds with mattresses, Standing fans, Syringes and needles, Surgical instruments, Autoclave, Microscopes, Refrigerators, Diagnostic set, Measuring instruments, Writing tables, Bed sheets & Pillow cases, Delivery kits for maternal care, Drinking mugs, Trolley patient stretcher, Generator set, Fire extinguishers, Cooking utensils, Brand new motorcycle, Sterilizers, and other essential medical tools are expected to significantly bolster the capacity of primary healthcare facilities to provide essential medical services.
“Receiving the medical equipment, the Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Vivien Otu, expressed profound appreciation for the donation, describing it as a timely intervention that will significantly improve healthcare delivery.
“This landmark intervention, aimed at strengthening the healthcare system at the grassroots, was met with palpable excitement and an outpouring of goodwill from constituents, community leaders, and healthcare professionals. This is even as Rep. Bassey Akiba remains committed to attracting more developmental projects and programmes to his federal constituency.”
