The family of former General Officer Commanding, GOC 6 Division and Land Component Commander, Operation Delta Safe, Port Harcourt Barracks, Late Major General Olu Irefin says the demise of the gallant soldier though painful, is a Failure of evil against good.
The immediate younger brother of the General, Mr. Olayemi Irefin stated this during a Special prayer organized by the Christian Association of Nigerian CAN to commemorate the birthday of the Late Icon at Saint Peter’s Anglican Churc, Ayetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Major General Olu Irefin was said to have died due to Covid-19 complication but the people of Ayetoro Gbede rejected the claim, alleging foul-play.
Mr. Olayemi Irefin while speaking with Newsmen shortly after the prayer, said though the death of his brother dealt a deadly blow on the family, Ayetoro Gbede community, Ijumu Kingdom, Okun land, Kogi State and Nigeria at large, they were consoled due to the fact that the deceased lived a fulfilled life.
“It is a failure of evil against good, they thought they were going to silence his name but it will never be. He will continue to live among us and people who are happy because of his demise will continue to be sad by the grace of God, they will continue to hear his (General Olu Irefin) name” Mr. Olayemi Irefin maintained.
He further noted that ” plans are on to immortalize him by establishing a Foundation that will propagate his ideals especially to the young generation, men and women.”
Also speaking, an elder brother to the General, Chief S.O Arowosafe pointed out that the Late Military Officer has left different footprints including, humility, accessibility and philanthropic gesture that cannot be easily forgotten.
Chief Arowosafe said “though he is no more, we are still very proud of him for his footprints. For the family and community, we will continue to celebrate him for is his humility, accessible, he mixes freely with the low and high… he believes in touching lives and his contributions cannot be forgotten in the next 50 years.”
He extolled the virtues of the late General whom he noted imparted the aged and young, adding that General Olu Irefin will continue to be in the minds of Ayetoro Gbede community, Ijumu people and Okun land.
A one time Vice Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Hon. Dayo Akanmode stated that ” I will remember him for his selflessness, courage, humility and as a man who laid down his life for others to make progress”
Hon. Akanmode who expressed satisfaction with the turnout at the prayer as well as those who participated virtually, condoled with the family and people of Ayetoro Gbede.
He urged them not to be discouraged but emulate the good works the deceased left behind.
Speaking earlier in a sermon, the Archdeacon of Ayetoro Gbede Archdeaconry, Venerable Thomas Tolorunju urged the family as well as lovers of General Olu Irefin not to lose hope but sustain the legacies he left behind.
The event featured prayers for the Irefin Family, Ayetoro Gbede Community, Ijumu Local Government Area and Nigeria.
