PDP gets new leadership in Nasarawa

The Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in Nasarawa State has elected the immediate-past secretary of the party, Adamu Bako as its chairman.

The election was conducted during the party’s emergency Congress held in Lafia, Nasarawa State Capital.

The party also elected Keffas Danlami as Secretary, Hanatu John as State Women Leader, Chinenege Muhammed as State Publicity Secretary and Yahaya Bunu as Treasurer.

Awesu Abdullahi was elected as the State Auditor, and Bala Aron as the State Legal Advisor, Marshin Shema (North), Isah Bala Mangi (South), and Attahiru Osu Audu (West) were voted to serve as Vice-Chairmen for the state’s three senatorial zones.

Speaking immediately after the election, Chairman of the PDP National Committee in charge of the party’s congress in the state, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, described the election as free and fairn urged party members to unite under new leadership of the party in the State.

He further urged unity among the contestants and other members of the party, emphasising that the PDP remains a big family.

“We had a very successful and credible congress. In the contest, the is no victor or vanquish. Whoever has emerged today is coming to serve the people. I therefore wish to appeal that anyone that has contested in this congress should accept the results.

“We have a total of 1,414 people that went through accreditation, and two people contested for the chairmanship position.

“The first person is Adamu Bako who got 1,403 votes, while Matthew John scored seven votes, and we have four invalid votes.

“Adamu Bako is hereby declared as the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Nasarawa State,” he said.

In his acceptance address as chairman, Hon Adamu Bako thanked all of the PDP members in the state for their solidarity and dedication in making sure that they turn out in large numbers to elect new leaders who will take the party to new heights.

He stated that in preparation for the general elections in 2027, the newly elected leaders under his direction would prioritize the PDP’s unity and bolstering its presence throughout the state.

“Our duty is to reach out to members who may feel aggrieved, so that we can work together as one family. I want to congratulate our PDP family for coming together with one voice to elect the new leaders,” he stated.

Earlier, the PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate in the State, Dr David Ombugadu praised the conduct of the congress and described it as free and fair.
