PATH: CPI Takes Awareness and enlightenment campaign to Crowther Memorial College Lokoja.


 

Men have been asked to move away from the wrong perception that they don’t cry out even when they are dieing in silence.

 

 

 

The Executive Director
Challenged Parenthood Initiative, Eunice Abimbola Agbogun, made the disclosure at
a three day awareness and enlightenment campaign held in Secondary Schools in Lokoja Kogi State on Sexual abuse of boys
in collaboration with Millennium Fellowship Pay Attention To Him Project.

 

The Executive Secretary was speaking to select male students when she visited Crowther Memorial College Lokoja, as part of the ongoing awareness and enlightenment campaign holding in Secondary Schools in Lokoja.

 

While pointing out that there is a wrong perception in the society that says unlike the women, the men don’t cry when they are being sexual abused, but prefer to die in silence, described it as a wrong perception, urged the male child to cry out when his rights are sexual abuse.

 

The Executive Director CPI explained that the time to make the protection of the rights the Male Child, like the Women and the Girl Child has become necessary, pointing out that the rate of sexual abuse against the male child is becoming worrisome.

 

The Executive Director, urged the Male Child to speak out when they are molested, encouraged them not to shy away from speaking out, urged them to always confide on parents and teachers for help.

 

While pointing out that the male child have the right to speak up when issues of sexual abuse is observed, encouraged the students to always report sexual abuse cases against the boy child as a way of arresting the menace.

 

Ola-Dahunsi Mercy Tomishola, a Millennium fellow of the class of 2022. The project manager of the Pay Attention To Him (PATH) project said the PATH Project is in fulfilment of SDG 4, disclosed that, current trends has shown that people are less concerned about the emotional abuse of the boy, a situation that has made the male child vulnerable.

Ola-Dahunsi said the PATH project is aimed at educating the boys on sexual abuse without consent through force or without consent, explained that both the male or female gender can be abuse.

She advised the male child to always report to parents, teachers when they are touched in inappropriate places, urged the male child to report cases of sexual abuse from the onset.

While pointing out that it is the right of the male child to speak up, said the awareness campaign is aimed at impacting knowledge on helping the male child speak up, as key to fighting sexual abuse

She disclosed that since July 2020, sexual abuse against the male child became an offense, advised the male child to ensure they complain to the police for appropriate action.

1 out of every 10 male child she explained is abused before they turn 13 years, with 1 in 6 men discovered to have been abused in there life time.

Ola-Dahunsi concluded that the male child is important and loved, reason why he needs to be protected, says the PATH project is geared towards making the male child a better person and to build a better society.

Also speaking, Attah Solomon, the State Coordinator of Save the Boys Initiative and the Programme Officer of Challenged Parenthood Initiative (CPI), described cultism as a factor that promotes sexual abuse, maintained that such abuse is not less harmful in boys than girls.
