It is a season of apprehension, fear and panic as a top officer of the Nigeria Army died during the ongoing Annual Chief of Army Staff Conference.
The event which is taking place in Abuja had the President addressing participants virtually when it kicked off a few days ago. The deceased, one of the General Officers Commanding a Division of the Army had lost his mother, and buried her in Kogi a few weeks back.
General Irefin died of COVID while attending COAS Conference. The senior officer just buried his mum at Ayetoro Gbedde, Kogi state.
Given the contagious effect of the disease there has been widespread apprehension among those who were at the programme.
Present were the Chief host, the Chief of Army Staff, Buratai, the Chief of Air Staff, Minister of Defence, Magashi, Chief of Defence Staff, Olonishakin and virtually everyone who is someone in the Nigeria army setup.
Indeed as at the time of filing this report, the Conference has been suspended while all those who attended have been ordered to proceed on isolation.
Usually the COAS conference is a week-long event.
