One-Ummah fourth Public Lecture: Barr. Idris Abdullahi calls on governments to diversify economy, reduce corruption

Governments at all levels have been urged to diversify the nation’s economy to reduce the present economic challenges confronting the nation.

 

A guest speaker, Ustaz Idris Abdullahi, Esq.
stated this on Sunday at the One -Ummah fourth public lecture held in Lokoja.

Ustaz Idris whose topic was on “The economic hardship in Nigeria, causes, effects and the Islamic way out”, said many families can no longer feed, thereby creating serious concerns in the Country.

He noted that the economic hardship has also led to susides in the society, stressing that some of the factors can be addressed, citing the removal of fuel subsidy as a major cause.

The Ustaz said while income remains constant, expenditures have multiplied and keeps increasing at an astronomical level without solution.

According to him, unemployment leads to increased crime rates and criminality, saying factors such as devaluation of naira, insecurity, corruption and mismanagement of public funds are equally reasons for battered economy, calling for urgent measures to check the challenges.

He called for repentance by the people as they seek better ways by returning to Allah, while appealing for patience also.

Chairman of the occasion, Justice Mohammed Bello who is a Kadi, Sharia Court of Appeal said the topic of the lecture was apt considering the current difficulties in Nigeria.

Justice Bello expressed confidence that the lecture will be beneficial to participants and urged relevant bodies to implement the recommendations.

Some of the contributors emphasized the need for value re-orientation among Nigerians, improved educational system, urging the government to take more practical steps to make the people smile

The Ohimege Igu of Kotonkarfe, Alhaji Seidu Akawu Salihu who was represented by Chief Abubakar Muhammed, the Ede of Igu Kotonkarfe said emphasis should be given to proper training of children, payers and supplication to Allah for intervention.

The host of One-Ummah, Alhaji Shaibu Ogodo and chairman of the body, Abdulrahem Fadhil, explained that the lecture was put in place to discuss issues affecting the masses and expressed appreciation to those who made it a success.

The representatives of leaque of Imams, some Professors, other Islamic scholars attended the public lecture.

Highlight of the event was the recitation of the Holy Qur’an
