The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service, KGIRS has recorded no fewer than 60 billion naira in IGR performance between November 2021 and September 2024.
The Executive Chairman of the service, Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe confirmed this outstanding performance in a special media briefing in Lokoja yesterday.
According to him, the service generated over N18B in 2022, N23B in 2023 and N19B as at September this year.
He was optimistic that the service will achieve close to the IGR target as projected in this year’s fiscal budget of the state.
He attributed the success story of KGIRS under his Watch to the unwavering support by the former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and the consolidated enabling environment provided by the the incumbent governor, Alhaji Ododo Ahmed Usman, praising the unflinching dedication to duty and high productivity of the workforce.
According to the Executive Chairman, the welfare of the workforce is a top priority of his administration as he continues to seek ways to enhance their well-being ,knowledge and effectiveness on the job, through regular adequate training programmes.
He disclosed that the governor has granted the approval to commence payment of minimum wage for the staff of KGIRS as from November 2024.
Alhaji Sule also spoke on the recently harmonised taxes collection law in the state , and disclosed that no fewer than 44 people have been arrested so far for illegal collection of taxes in the state.
He dispelled unfounded reports that his administration spent over 500 million naira to renovate the headquarters of the service, stressing that about 170 million naira was duly approved by the state governor to carry out extensive renovations .
He later conducted journalists round the edifice to see the level of renovations carried out.
Alhaji Sule, however, warned mischief makers in the state to desist from spreading unfounded rumours and unconfirmed reports about his administration .
