My mum, Grace Rotimi left an indelible imprint in the hearts of those who came her way – ESV Olugbenga Collins Rotimi reflects as he laid mother’s body to rest

Ekirin-Adde, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, was agog over the weekend as friends and sympathizers from far and near converged on the sleepy community for the burial of Late Deaconess Grace Rotimi.

A health practitioner and philanthropist, Grace Rotimi endeared herself to many with her loving disposition. It was no surprise as her funeral attracted an unprecedented crowd.

“I am not surprised to see the crowd” his son, Gbenga Rotimi said as he reflected on the life of the mother. “She was a crowd puller. She loved people, and that’s why you see so many people coming to pay their last respect to her.”

“In her life time she was godly” recalled the Vice Chancellor: “She was somebody who was determined that her Children would become something. And I think she achieved that.”

Born on 9th September, 1948 to Ilaga clan of Otun-Adde, Ekirin Adde, late Grace Rotimi’s farewell service was held at the First Baptist Church, Ekirin Adde. Her body arrived to a rousing welcome. It was a service with no shortage of tributes to her, as friends and loved ones went down memory lane in remembrance of her good life.

“I ordained her in 1987 (as a Deaconess)” recalled her pastor in Ilorin, Rev Martins Olobatoke, founder, RCC. “She was a virtous woman. She did not believe in rancour in the church.”

In a message titled Setting your records straight, Rev Dr Emmanuel Ogunjobi of the First Baptist Church, urged the people to look beyond the present, and focus on eternity.

After 73 years of what was no doubt a remarkable life, the deceased was laid to rest at her Ekirin-Adde residence.

Known for her philanthropic gesture, prayer life and other godly virtues, Grace Rotimi leaves an indelible imprint in the hearts of those who came her way.

For her family, she leaves behind a vacuum no other can occupy.

Among the cream of guests at the occasion were the Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Awoniyi, the Olu-Adde of Ekirin-Adde, among other chiefs and community leaders. Also present to cheer the family was the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi.

Music lovers were also served the finest of tunes from Music maestro, Dr Saheed Osupa.
