Receiving the delegation, SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Hon. Atima Muktar, appreciated the efforts of the disability office and promised to consider all requests presented. He acknowledged the challenges faced by PWDs during disasters and highlighted considerations for those affected by the ongoing flood situation in Lokoja, Kogi State.

_Key Outcomes of the Visit:_

– _Inclusive Policy-Making_: SEMA pledged to include PWDs in policy-making processes to ensure accessibility, empowerment, and employment opportunities.
– _Collaboration_: SEMA will work closely with the Kogi State Office for Disability Affairs to address disaster management concerns.
– _Emergency Response_: SEMA will compile a list of officers across various locations to facilitate prompt reporting of disaster cases requiring emergency assistance for PWDs.
– _Employment Opportunities_: SEMA considered employing a member of the disability community as ad-hoc staff or employee to promote total inclusion.

Hon. Abdulhakeem emphasized the importance of considering PWDs’ unique needs in disaster management strategies. “SEMA has a vital role to play in ensuring accessibility, empowerment, and employment opportunities for PWDs,” he stated.
