Kogi State Government Allocates ₦97 Million for Development of Okene Central Community Secondary School, Agasa-Uvete

The Kogi State Government has announced plans to invest ₦97 million in the development of Okene Central Community Secondary School, Agasa-Uvete. The announcement was made by the General Manager of the Kogi State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), Chief Dauda Momoh, during the flag-off ceremony and presentation of a cheque for the Agasa-Uvete Community Development Plan (CDP). Chief Momoh represented the State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, at the event.

The development plan for the school includes the comprehensive renovation of a block of four classrooms, the construction of ventilated-improved pit toilets, and the provision of a motorized borehole. According to Chief Momoh, the intervention underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the infrastructural deficits in schools across the state.

“This school holds strategic importance due to its location and historical significance. Many notable individuals, including myself and former Governor Yahaya Bello, had their formative education here. This special intervention project, fully funded by the government, will significantly enhance the learning environment and improve the quality of education in this community,” he said.

Community and Stakeholder Support

The Chairman of the Agasa-Uvete Community Project Committee, Hon. Jimoh Aliu, commended the government and the CSDA for prioritizing the development of the school. He expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for approving and releasing funds for the projects.

“We are deeply grateful to the governor for this timely intervention. It is a testament to his commitment to education and community development. As a community, we will ensure our full cooperation and support for the successful execution of these projects,” Hon. Aliu remarked.

Students, Teachers, and Community React

The announcement was met with enthusiasm from students, teachers, and community members. Many expressed their appreciation for the government’s efforts, pledging their support to ensure the smooth execution and sustainability of the projects.

A student of the school shared, “This is a dream come true for us. We have been hoping for better facilities, and now we see hope for an improved learning environment.” Teachers also voiced their excitement, noting that the intervention would enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

Funded Under NG-CARES

The projects are being funded under the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) program. NG-CARES is a national initiative designed to provide financial support for community-driven projects that enhance resilience and stimulate local economic growth.

With the commencement of this intervention, the Agasa-Uvete community looks forward to a transformed educational environment that will benefit current and future generations of students. The government’s commitment to fully funding the project and the community’s readiness to support its execution signal a brighter future for education in the area.
