Kogi Govt Woos Canadian Investors at ICERMS, Seeks to Develop Mineral Resources

Kogi state government has reiterated its desire to develop the abundant mineral resources in the state.

Speaking at the 3rd International Conference on Raw Materials (ICERMS), Governor Usman Ododo requested collaboration with Canadian companies in the area of adopting modern mining technologies that will ensure efficient extraction and processing of solid minerals.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Dr. Folashade Ayoade, the Governor said the proposed partnership between Kogi State and Canadian firms is a powerful opportunity to create wealth from the state’s natural resources, improve lives and protect the environment.

He noted that Canada and Kogi State has abundant natural resources in common which needed to be tapped into for wealth creation.

According to him, partnering with Canadian entities promises a host of economic and social benefits as it will open doors to new markets, expand employment opportunities, and increase revenue through enhanced mineral production.

“The discussions we have had since our arrival and the business relationships we look forward to establishing here and subsequently should serve as models for international cooperation that prioritize economic gains and sustainability.

“Canadian businesses will gain direct access to Kogi’s valuable raw materials, vital to industries worldwide. Together, we can leverage this wealth to ensure sustainable development that benefits both regions.

“Advanced geological surveys, state-of-the-art equipment, and sustainable mining methods are key areas where Canadian expertise would be invaluable,” Governor Ododo said.

Another possible area of collaboration according to the Governor is training and capacity building through well-structured partnerships to enable knowledge-sharing initiatives.

“Canadian professionals can train Kogi’s workforce in sustainable mining practices, health and safety standards, and environmental management, empowering us to align with both local and international regulations.

He also advocated Joint Ventures Partnerships between Kogi and Canadian companies in joint mining ventures which he said hold significant promise with gathering of resources, expertise, and market access.

“Both regions have an opportunity to share best practices for sustainable development. Canada’s expertise in balancing mining activities with environmental stewardship can help Kogi minimize ecological impacts, preserving our diverse and fragile ecosystem.”

Other Members of Kogi State Government delegation to Canada are; Hon. Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Alh. Bashir Mohammed Abubakar as well as Director General, Research and Development, Mr. Moses Okeize-Okafor
