Kogi: Crisis Looms As Lokoja Indigenes Set To Protest Over Alleged Relocation Of NIWA Headquarters

Indigenes of Lokoja, Kogi State Capital have started to grumble over the systematic relocation of the management team of the National Inland Water ways Authority, NIWA to Abuja to carry out their duties while abandoning their official headquarters in  the state.

A visit to the NIWA headquarters will convince you of their claim as the place is deserted by the staff following alleged relocation of the management to Abuja by the managing Director Mr. George  Moghalu .

The bewildered workers were seen discussing in a depressing tones as what may have made the management to abandoned the office for Abuja to be holding official functions when there was no threat to peace in the state.

Our correspondent while speaking with some staff who begged for anonymity said they have not set their eyes on the Managing Director and some senior management members like the General Managers and others for over two months now adding that most of the memos were always taken to Abuja to meet the Managing Director at his official residence for attention.

Lokoja indigenes who were alarmed by the situation are already planning to embark on peaceful protest to draw the attention of the Minister of Transport to the development .

One of the aggrieved, Mallam Danladi Baba Sumaila said in an interview that their worry is born out from the fear that there could be a possible plan to relocate the NIWA headquarters from Lokoja to Abuja if not how can the whole management abandoned their offices and be coordinating official assignments from out side the headquarters?

The Managing Director, Mr. George  Moghalu is also rumored to be contesting for the governorship election in Anambra State on the platform of All Progressive Congress, APC .

Mr. Moghalu was appointed Managing Director of NIWA in 2019 having held several positions in party offices including National Publicity Secretary of the defunct All Nigeria People’s Party, ANPP.

Efforts to speak with the Public Relation  Officer, PRO by our correspondent did not yield positive result as the lady who claimed to be the staff in the public Relation desk said her boss was not on seat .

A call also to the phone number of the managing Director was not successful nor responded to.
