The Kogi State Executive Secretary, office for Disability Affairs, Barr. Zacchaeus Dare Michael has called for the immediate removal of the Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele.
His call for removal followed the teargasing of Persons with Disabilities who were on a peaceful protest to the CBN yesterday to demand for employment quota for PWDs.
The Executive Secretary lamented that what was a peaceful protest was turned into an attack on PWDs following the directives to teargas the protesters, said if not for the intervention of the FCT Commissioner of Police, the casualties would have been much, called for the immediate removal of the CBN Governor.
Barr. Dare described the protest by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF WORKERS AND APPLICANTS WITH DISABILITIES IN NIGERIA as very peaceful from report until the action of the Police
Barr. Dare called for the immediate removal of the CBN governor for violating the rights of persons with Disability as captured in Discrimination Against Persons with Disability (Prohibition) Act 2018 and UN convention on Persons with Disability rights.
He urged that the Police officers involved in that barbaric act must be identified, arrested and prosecuted for violating the right Persons with Disability.
While pointing out that it is right for PWDs even though physically challenged, but mentally capable, with the requesite experience and qualifications for employment, wondered why they should be treated the way they did during there protest to the CBN.
He revealed how other organizations like the Army, Police and other Ministry, Department and Agencies have engaged PWDs, described the action by the CBN official as unnecessary, call for the resignation of the Governor and prosecution of the officers involved.
