Ebonyi State Government under the leadership of Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has shut down all the illegal motor parks in Abakaliki capital city and confiscated over thirty vehicles.
The State Government through the senior special assistant to the Governor on Transport Chief Fredrick Nwogba said the shut down of the illegal motor parks was as a result of refusal of the park operators to relocate to the ultra modern central park after one month ultimatum earlier issued to them by the State Government elapsed.
Chief Nwogbaga who ordered the impounded vehicles to be taken to the State Ministry of works and transport, added that the owners would pay fine to the State Government approved bank account immediately or be charged to court to serve as deterrent to others.
He warned the illegal park operators against further break down of law and order but remain law abiding citizens by kindly relocating to the State Ultra Modern central park to ensure sanity in the State, while expressing the readiness of Government to give them a conducive atmosphere to ensure their businesses thrive.
The motor parks that were shut down includes but not limited to Presco, Onuebonyi, Old Timber, Sperando Plaza as well as Vanco Junction motor parks.
The SSA to the Governor also charged motorists operating at Ishieke motor park to bring documents empowering them to be operating in the area to the State Ministry of works and transport or risked being shut down.
However, he charged road side marketers in the capital city to immediately relocate to the State International market for the free flow of human and vehicular movements.
In an interview, some drivers of the affected motor parks including Mr Nworie Chukwuma and Ikelegu Francis who operated from vanco junction to Onueke said their business have been crippled over the shut down of their motor parks, describing the development as very worrisome.
They appealed to the State Government to give them more time to arrange themselves prior to relocating to the central park as ordered.
