Ebonyi First Lady Flags Off Free Digital Skill Acquisition Training For Youths

The Wife of the Ebonyi State Governor Chief (Mrs) Mary Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru has flagged off three Months free skill acquisition scheme with kits for the youths of the State.

The training which was organized by the first lady pet project, Better Health for Rural Women Children and Internally Displaced Persons, BERWO, in collaboration with the state’s ministry of ICT, featured Front end development design, hardware maintenance /networking, graphic design, video editing and content creation.

Flagging off the training at the State Ministry of ICT, Abakaliki, Mrs Nwifuru expressed her dedication and commitment to empowering youths of the State with effective skills necessary to lead a successful and fulfilling life so as to reduce youths restiveness in the State, adding that empowering the teeming youths with basic and practical life skills especially in technical and digital literacy is a key to development in the society.

According to Mrs Nwifuru “empowering our teeming youths with basic and practical life skills, especially in technical and digital literacy, is key to our development as a people. Practical life skills are essential for you, our youths, to navigate the numerous challenges of everyday life, informed decisions, and become productive citizens as well as compete favorably with your counterparts all over the world. These necessary skills erase any social stigma associated with computer illiteracy in a digital world like ours today”

“These skills include information communication technology, problem-solving, critical thinking, and financial literacy, among others. Digitization of Ebonyi youths is inevitable today as we recognize the importance of equipping you with these skills to enhance your employability, entrepreneurship and overall well-being, as well as curbing the menace of youth restiveness in the society. Our goal is to produce responsible, independent, and innovative individuals who will drive progress and development in Ebonyi State”

Mrs Nwifuru further noted that social connectivity, networking, social media and professional networks allow youths to connect with peers, mentors, and industry professionals, facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration as well as community engagement, using Digital platforms to enable youths engage in community development projects, social causes, and political activism thereby fostering a more informed and active citizenry.

However, the first lady commended the State Governor Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his enormous commitment to empowering Ebonyi youths and for working hard to make the State greater. In the same vein, Mrs Nwifuru extolled the State Commissioner for ICT Hon. Uzor Tochukwu Okorie for his dedication to the course of bettering the lives of Ebonyi youths through Information and communication technology.

She urged the youths to embrace the initiative by using the opportunity effectively and work together with the State Government so as to build a future where youths are empowered to reach their full potentials and contribute positively to
the society, while enjoining the youths to shun any form of drug abuse in their own best interest.

In his remark, the State Commissioner for ICT Hon. Uzor Tochukwu Okorie, who said that the importance of technology in the society can not be overemphasized, noted that technology is veritable tool for employment and wealth creation.

On his part, the Director General of Ebonyi broadcasting Corporation Comrade Tony Nwifuru applauded Nigerian’s first lady Sen. Remi Tinubu and Mrs Nwifuru for the intiative in bringing digital economy center in the State and charged the participants to show commitment to the training to make Her Excellencies proud.

In a lecture, BERWO team lead Dr Nkechi Echiegu urged all and sundry to exhibit positive attitudes and have good human relationship at all times for a better society.

conclusively, the Commander of NDLEA Ebonyi State Ogah Peter tasked youths to shun Intake of Illicit drugs including Cannabis, India hemp, Methamphetamine, marijuana among others as it has done no good than harm in the society.

In an interview, one of the participants Mkpuma Deborah who said she was honored to be part of the training appreciated Mrs Nwifuru for the kind gesture and promised to put in her best in learning the skill.
