Call to Attention on NANS upon N-HYPPADEC Youth Transformation Program

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to Refrain from Interfering in the N-HYPPADEC Youth Transformation Program

1) The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is hereby advised to refrain from interfering in the affairs of the Youth Transformation Program (YTP) philanthropically carried out by the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC).

2) This program has positively impacted over 5,000 youths across the initial six (6) N-HYPPADEC Member States, which are Benue, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, and Plateau States respectively.

3) We call on the Nigerian society to recognize and appreciate the significant contributions made by N-HYPPADEC. If appreciation is not forthcoming, then criticism should be withheld.

4) N-HYPPADEC mandated to harness resources in the most transparent, acceptable, and cost-efficient manner towards ameliorating the negative effects of hydroelectric dam operations in HYPPADEC member states, has immensely contributed to the development of its mandated communities and beyond, striving to reduce unemployment and poverty to the barest minimum across the initial six member states.

5) In the first edition of the Youth Transformative Programme (YTP) in 2022/2023, N-HYPPADEC trained 5,079 youths in over 30 skills and vocations. The next batch will expand to include all ten states under the Commission’s jurisdiction, with the addition of Nasarawa, Kaduna, Gombe, and Taraba.

6) Following the training, N-HYPPADEC has ensured transparency, accountability, and sustainability by involving all relevant stakeholders in the communities.

7) These stakeholders include State Ministries of Youth, State Chairmen of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), traditional leaders, security heads, legal experts, heads of trade unions, political leaders (especially Local Government Council Chairmen of the benefiting communities), and others.

8) A meeting held at the Commission’s headquarters on October 10, 2023, resulted in some resolutions, a few of which include:

I. N-HYPPADEC Member State Coordinators, in collaboration with NYCN State representatives, should mobilize all YTP beneficiaries to obtain CAC Business Name registration, fully sponsored by N-HYPPADEC.

II. To prevent abuse of the starter packs, forms should be created for each beneficiary to fill and sign, with provisions for three guarantors, including traditional rulers, family members, and local government authorities.

III. The grand flag-off of the starter pack distribution will take place at the N-HYPPADEC headquarters in Minna, Niger State in which the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be in attendance, with subsequent distributions in the other five member states on different dates.

9) In a spirit of commitment, N-HYPPADEC has completed all necessary processes with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and invited stakeholders, particularly NYCN State Chairmen, to witness the CAC data capturing exercise of the beneficiaries to acquire their CAC Business Registration certificates which is one of the graduation packages for the beneficiaries, while other certificates is powered by National Directorate of Employment (NDE), ….

10) It is crucial for NANS to understand that the Youth Transformation Program (YTP) is one out of many development initiatives N-HYPPADEC is executing, students were also not left out, as one of the students-focused initiative was the sponsorship of over 3000 NECO registration for students across the N-HYPPADEC member states. Any interference will be seen as a trespass.

11) The YTP has brought about advocates of development which formed about “YTP Beneficiaries Concerned Citizens”, fully recognized by the N-HYPPADEC management and fully supported by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) of the N-HYPPADEC member states.

12) It is on this note that the YTP beneficiaries Concerned Citizens draws the attention of the public, that we will not hesitate to call to caution any party that attempts to disrupt this program.

13) The 72-hour ultimatum issued by NANS to N-HYPPADEC should be withdrawn immediately, as failure to do so will be perceived and interpreted as an act against the peace and progress of our dear Nigeria.

14) The YTP Beneficiaries Concerned Citizens call on all Nigerians to recognize that we are fully involved in the processes and procedures of distributing the starter packs. We urge all beneficiaries to exercise patience and comply with the procedures set by N-HYPPADEC for the benefit of all and our communities.

15) We extend our gratitude to N-HYPPADEC for this monumental initiative, to the Federal Government and its subsidiary tiers (State and Local Governments) for providing an enabling environment, and to the communities for their participation and support.

**Build the Youth!!! Build the Nation!!!**
