Breaking: Engr. Kayode Adegbayo, appointed Senior Special Assistant to the National President of ALGON on Programmes.
Engr. Kayode Adegbayo, Consultant to the Senate Committee on States and Local Government Administration, has been appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to the National President of Association of Local Government on Programmes.
In a letter of appointment, signed by the ALGON National President, Hon. Bello Lawal, urged the Senior Special Assistant to bring in his wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of his responsibilities.
The National President described the new SSA as a man with strong pedigree when it comes to the issues of Local Government, said ALGON is placing so much confidence on him, expressed optimism that the new SSA has all it takes to will justify his appointment.
Speaking shortly after receiving his letter, Engr. Adegbayo said: ” I return all the Glory to God Almighty for his faithfulness and most especially for his love, kindness and mercies over my life. I appreciate God Almighty for this rare privilege for bringing my many years of experiences and effort in the development of our nation grassroots to bear by this appointment as the Special Assistant to the National President of ALGON on Programmes”.
“I wish to appreciate the National President of ALGON and the entire leadership for this opportunity to contribute more and at another higher level of responsibility to the pursuit towards the strengthening of the local government system in Nigeria”.
“With the recent Supreme Court Judgement, it has become more demanding to have a more United, vibrant, purposeful, focused and committed ALGON to be able to meet with the new responsibilities and challenges that comes with the Financial Autonomy granted the third tier of government by the last supreme Court judgment”.
” It is therefore heartwarming that the National President and the entire leadership of ALGON find me worthy to be part of the team to bring about this platform to reposition the local government system for the expectations by Nigerians towards the need to rebrand our local government system”.
“I believe that my wealth of experience and committment towards the strengthening of the local government system will be great advantage to offer my best as may be demanded of me by the leadership”.
“There is no doubt that the Hon ( Engr) Bello Lawal led administration will make great impact on the development of the local government system through programmes and activities that will help the system”.

Still on his pedigree, Engr. Adegbayo said “I have through collaboration with the relevant agencies of government visited the 774 local government areas of Nigeria both those on land and across the waters to familiarise with the true situation of governance in the areas of financial allocations in relation to the projects/Programmes executed and their impact on the lives of the people of the grassroots”.
It would be recalled that Engr. Adegbayo initiated the Nigerian Local government development Award in 2005 and it has been sustained as one of the ways by which the leadership of the local government areas are accessed and honoured to encourage healthy competition for performance at the third tier of government.
Similarly, Engr. Adegbayo initiated in collaboration with the National Assembly in 2006 the Nigerian local government development Summit, till date remains one of the major gathering of local government stakeholders in Nigeria to come together and discuss on ways towards improving the local government system in Nigeria, a program that has made remarkable impact on the campaign for the strengthening of local government system.
The new SSA who the ALGON National Chairman said will be expected to reposition ALGON has over the years interacted personally with several local Chairmen and their Executive Members, Heads of Local Government Administration of Local Government since 2005 till date from all the 36 States and the FCT, has facilitated foreign leadership and Management training programmes to several countries outside Nigeria.
This remarkable feat according to Engr. Adegbayo has no doubt exposed the leadership of local government administration to international best practices in leadership and management and afforded them he opportunities of exposing them and broadening their capacities generally.
It is therefore without mincing words that the contributions of Engr. Adegbayo to the advancement of the nation’s Local Government’s and it’s emancipation can not be over emphasized.
The appointment of Engr. Adegbayo by ALGON is therefore not a surprise for the Association to have found him fit for this special responsibility as the Special Assistant to the National President of ALGON on Programmes.
A round peg in a round hole, Engr. Adegbayo also expressed optimism that he will not disappoint the entire leadership of ALGON.
“I will not disappoint the local government leadership across Nigeria and as I have remained with the grassroots over the years, I will improve on the tempo for the struggle and will not disappoint the grassroots people”.
“We need a working local government system to compliment the State and Federal Government to make Nigeria greater and better. We need the Local Government system that is strengthened and well empowered to guarantee a secured grassroots in Nigeria, to allow agriculture and other socio – economic activities to thrive”.
