The first Igala Cinema Movie, ‘Awomi’ will be shown on Saturday, April 1, 2023 in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja and the Kogi State capital Lokoja.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Executive Producer of the movie, Okpanachi Joseph Adejoh, a Senior Customs Officer and National President of Bishop Delisle College Old Students Association (BIDOSA 95).

According to Adejoh, “In Abuja, the movie will be shown in Silverbird Cinema, close to Yar’Adua Centre at 1.30pm. In Lokoja, it will be shown at Bluebell Cinemas, Bluebell Hotel, 500 Housing Units Lokoja also by 1.30pm.

“Tickets for VVIP is N20,000, VIP – N10,000 and Regular – N3500. For ticket and enquiries calls can be put across to David – 07018414349, Eve – 08062454694 and Becky – 0814 229 1266.”

Adejoh, an astute writer and author of INIKPI, Ayegba’s Beloved Daughter and ATA AMEH OBONI, End of Discussion, said Awomi is the highest indigenous movie export from North Central and a must-watch Igala movie for everyone.

He further revealed that the film which was shot for over one month by a high-profile producer of indigenous movie, Thomson Makolo in three cities (Abuja, Lokoja and Idah), was commissioned with a Royal Blessing by HRM Mathew Opaluwa Oguche-Akpa II, the Ata’Gala and Chairman, Kogi State Council of Chiefs.

He said: “The limited distribution is the Producer’s efforts to numerous and unending calls to well-meaning movie viewers who can’t wait anymore to watch the movie based on testimonies from viewers at the Royal Premiere, Campus Premiere and Online release at Pre and Production stages.”

The Royal Premiere of Awomi was held at the Ata’s palace in December last year. Prior to the premiere, Makolo, the renowned filmmaker was quoted by OURWORLDGIST as explaining that Awomi is “a tale of two brothers where the sanctity of filial affinity of brotherhood is shattered by the proverbial step mother’s syndrome: as encapsulated in most African folktales.

“The nagging quest for self-preservation drives a mother to the brim in a spell binding plot twist of fate. The tragic consequence of a step mother exchange of the destiny of her son with that of step son becomes the turning point in this great story called Awomi.

“Awomi is a cultural product, an economic resource which embodies an artistic content for the international market space.”

The movie was recently adjudged ‘Kogi Movie Of The Year 2022’ by the organisers of the Kogi Social Media Awards.
