APC Presidential Primary: Kogi Solid Minerals Commissioner Says Tinubu’s Reforms Winning Grassroots Support
The All Progressives Congress [APC] presidential primary drew large turnouts across Nigeria on Saturday, with Gegu South Ward in Kogi State recording a heavy presence of party members, long queues, and sustained political activity.
Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Bashiru Gegu, voted in the ward and mobilized party faithful in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s candidacy for 2027.
Speaking after casting his ballot, Gegu said the turnout reflected growing confidence in the President’s economic and governance reforms. He described the exercise as evidence of the APC’s organizational strength and cohesion at the grassroots.
“What we have seen here today is not just a vote. It is an endorsement of a leader who has shown the courage to take difficult decisions for the long-term good of Nigeria,” Gegu said. “President Tinubu’s reforms are tough in the short term, but they are setting Nigeria on a path where, by the end of a second term, the country will be an envy to others.”
The commissioner declared Kogi State firmly within the APC fold, crediting the structure built under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Bello for keeping the state unified behind the party.
“Kogi remains an APC state. With the leadership of Governor Ododo and the foundation laid by former Governor Bello, the state is locked for the party and for President Tinubu,” he stated.
Gegu urged Nigerians to remain patient and resolute, noting that the administration had passed through its initial phase of economic adjustment and was now positioned to deliver tangible outcomes.
“My appeal to Nigerians is not to waiver. We have gone through the difficult part. In a few days from now, the country will begin to see clearer signs that we are out of the woods. The people of Kogi West and indeed all Nigerians should stay optimistic,” he said.
He called on party members to sustain mobilization and avoid distractions that could undermine the gains of the current administration, adding that continuity was critical for national stability and development.
The primary in Gegu South Ward was conducted peacefully, with party officials commending the orderly conduct of members and the high level of participation.
