AN OPEN LETTER TO INEC AND MR PRESIDENT

I first of all congratulate Nigeria and Nigerians for the successful election.

I also congratulate the President-elect, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his election, may God guide and guard you through and I wish you a successful tenure.

I congratulate other contestants, His Excellency, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, His Excellency, Peter Obi and His Excellency, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso for a successful outing, may God be with you all….for the fact you didn’t win today does not mean that you cannot win another day.

To INEC, I must congratulate you for the election, but we still need more from our electoral umpire.
The deployment of BVAS for the purpose of voters accreditation and transmission of results is highly commendable, it was really effective and a very big improvement over the card readers we used to have.
However, I still want to believe that INEC can do more….same technology that was migrated from the card readers to BVAS can still be upgraded to accommodate e-balloting.

Let me explain, in addition to the functions BVAS can perform e-ballot function can be added to the menu to make our electoral system complete.
In this case there would be no need for physical availability of ballot papers, ballot boxes and whatsoever.
There would be no need for physical counting of votes in our polling units and any collation centers across Nigeria that has putting so many lives in danger and many accusations and counter accusations would not be necessary.
If we can come this far in our electoral system, I think what is remaining for us to achieve a complete package is just a configuration of additional icon. In doing this we would have saved many lives and billions of Dollars as cost of production.

And to our President, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, I congratulate you for writing your name with the golden ink especially in the area of electoral system.
You promised that you are going to leave behind a good legacy, we have seen that in this elections, may Almighty God continue to be with you, you have tried but we still need a little improvement over what we already have….Nigerians would appreciate you more if you can do that for us before you leave office.

We need a complete real-time electronic electoral system, we need very little improvement over BVAS that can accommodate everything about voting process from accreditation, e-voting and real-time counting of votes.

Please Mr President, we want you to consider this later and do something about it before you leave office…..let us start to test run in the forthcoming Kogi State election.

Long live Mr President, long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Abdulmajeed Hassan
Writes from Abuja
