Ahead of the 2023 general election in Nigeria, a Non- Governmental Organization based in Kogi State has taken as part of its core value to sensitize and mobilize younger people who are of voting age to go and register as voters in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.
The foundation which is determined to contribute its quota in widening the democratic space in the country has taken it upon itself to educate the electorate on their civic responsibility to elect the leaders of their choice in any given election.
The organization which has an affiliate with another group called OKUN YOUTHS FOR SOCIAL IMPACT composed of youths across Okun nation commenced its activities many months ago in Kabba/Bunu to create awareness on the need to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
This laudable initiative has made the group a regular visitor to the Kabba Central Market on a monthly basis to effect regular cleaning exercise which has been effective since the operation to clean the market started.
The organization is also involved in sensitizing the upcoming generations on the need to shun every form of social vices that is inimical to their growth which can bar them from fulfilling their destiny in life and focus on issues that can be of assistance to them.
Currently AJAF Foundation has mobilized more than two thousand youths for voter registration in the local government, a project that is ongoing until all who are of voting age get registered to participate in electing leaders of their choice at the various levels come 2023 general election.
According to the founder, Mr. Ayodeji Ajayi, a China trained Agricultural Economics based in Ibadan said it has become expedient based on his experience in China to re-orientate the youths toward a meaningful venture that can be of assistance to the larger society.
He said Nigeria has the advantage of the population which can be used to turn around the fortune of the country if properly utilized in strategic sectors that the younger generations can get involved in.
Mr Ayodeji said since leadership is the bane of Nigeria and the woes of democracy as a form of government.
It is imperative therefore to sensitize the citizens on the need for them to register which will confer on them the right to vote and be voted for any time such needs arise.
He noted that the foundation is self-financing and will continue to play its strategic role in mobilizing the people toward the development of the area and the society at large.
