….reaffirms Ighodalo as senatorial district’s sole aspirant

The Edo Central Senatorial District Caucus of the People’s Democratic Party PDP has warned the secretary of the Edo State chapter of the party, Hillary Otsu against issuing unguided and unauthorised statements ahead the party’s governorship primary election slated for February this year.
In a statement issued by the Edo Central Senatorial District Caucus of PDP and signed by Archbishop Anthony Okosun,
State Vice chairman and Chairman, Edo Central PDP Senatorial Caucus and Barr. Luckson Ogedegbe, State Assistant Secretary and Secretary, Edo Central PDP Senatorial Caucus and made available to newsmen; said the caucus took exception to a statement issued by the said Hillary Otsu wherein he condemned the adoption of Asue Ighodalo (Esq) as the consensus governorship aspirant of the Senatorial District.
According to the statement, “The attention of the Edo Central Senatorial Caucus of the PDP, has been drawn to a demeaning statement issued by the destructive State Secretary of the party, Hillary Otsu, in respect of the adoption of Barr. Asue Ighodalo as the consensus aspirant of the zone for the coming Governorship primary. The statement was issued to spite the leadership of the zone, a trait that has become habitual of the state Secretary.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senatorial District Caucus is a recognized organ of the party whose functions are well spelt out in Section 20(2) of the 2017 PDP constitution as amended. The meeting was properly constituted with members of the Caucus as listed in the constitution present including the State Vice chairman, members of the State Executive Committee, All the LGA party chairmen, All the elected Council Chairmen and leaders from the Senatorial District. For the divisive State Secretary to refer to the caucus as a segment of the Senatorial zone is unfortunate. Hilary Otsu should come to the reality that Edo Central PDP is united and has no segment”.
While warning Hillary Otsu that his disrespect for Edo Central PDP is unbecoming, the statement reminded the PDP secretary that during the tenure of Chief Dan Orbih as chairman of the party, that Edo Central Indegenes served as secretary and neither disrespected Orbih, nor issued unauthorised statements as he’s allegedly doing now.
The statement added that the adoption of Ighodalo by Edo Central Senatorial District Caucus of PDP is without prejudice to other governorship aspirants’ right to pursue their aspiration.
“The Caucus never endorsed Barr. Asue Ighodalo as a governorship candidate but a consensus governorship aspirant of the zone. This was without prejudice to the right of any other aspirant to pursue his or her aspiration.
“Hilary Otsu is baffled that the PDP in Edo Central is acting in unison. This is running against his destructive tendencies. We wish to warn Hilary Otsu that his disrespect of the Edo Central Senatorial District is unbecoming. When his kins man, Chief Dan Orbih was the State chairman, our sons, Hon. Otubor and Chief Omi Imoisili were State Secretaries. They never disrespected the chairman. How can a Secretary be issuing statements not authorized by the chairman. This is because Hilary Otsu has no respect for the people and leaders of Edo Central Senatorial District so he disrespect the State chairman, Rt. Hon. Tony Aziegbemi at will.
“The leadership of the PDP in Edo Central has spoken. This has always been the norm that kept the PDP victorious in the Senatorial District until the likes of Hilary Otsu came on board with their destructive and divisive politics.
“Once again, the Edo Central Senatorial Caucus of the PDP, reinstates the adoption of Barr. Asue Ighodalo as the consensus aspirant of the party in the Senatorial District for the 2024 governorship primary. All faithful party members are urged to give him all the needed support to emerge as the candidate of the party”.
