Dear Majesty,
You have taken a bow on this world’s stage and been promoted to glory to revel in the presence of Allah and maker. I can picture it all, you seated on a stool surrounded by those who have gone before us as you regale them with tales of your illustrious life fraught with achievements, unity, progress and victory with renewed determination. In the words of one of my favourite hymns, “It is well with your soul” now, free from pain and any form of affliction and have eternal rest.
Your Majesty, you fulfilled your reign and duty with dignity and grace. May your selflessness and courage continue to be a beacon of hope for Ebira race even in our continuous struggle to be completely freed from all forms of discrimination, recrimination and social exclusion in this state and the country at large. You was a figure of incalculable dignity and pride to Ebira nation, consistently providing comfort at times of sadness and joy at times of celebration. You was a point of unwavering stability in an ever changing world, and you will be greatly missed.
Your Majesty, even though you have ceased to be with us physically, your spirit lives on in our hearts. In the eternal words of that enduring song by Boyz To Men and Mariah Carey, “And I know you’re shining down on me from heaven”, like our previous kings and fathers we’ve lost along the way, and I know eventually we will all be together, one sweet day as one united and proudly unconquered ethnic in West Africa.
May your royal soul rest in eternal peace. Amen.
