National Assembly Passes Bill to Establish Federal University of Medical Sciences, Egbe

 

In a landmark achievement for Okunland, the National Assembly has passed the bill to establish the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Egbe, located in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, read the bill for the third time and passed it in concurrence with the Senate, marking the final legislative hurdle before presidential assent.

The bill, originally sponsored in the Senate by Senator Sunday Steve Karimi (Kogi West), gained overwhelming support and was successfully steered through the upper chamber in the House of Representatives, by Hon. leke Abejide, representing Yagba East/West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency, played a key role in its passage through the lower chamber.

With legislative processes now complete, the bill will proceed to the National Assembly Secretariat for documentation and be transmitted to the President for final assent.

Once signed into law, the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Egbe, will serve as a center of excellence in medical education, research, and healthcare delivery significantly boosting access to quality healthcare and youth empowerment in Kogi State and Nigeria at large.

This milestone is being celebrated across Okunland, with community leaders, traditional rulers, and political stakeholders urging the Presidency to act swiftly in signing the bill into law.
