Leadership, our major problem, not constitutional amendment, Says Kogi PDP Chieftain, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo.

A Chieftain of the Kogi State People’s Democratic Party, Hon. Muhammed Sanni Gambo has attributed the nation’s challenges to Leadership and not regular constitutional amendments as is being clamoured.

Hon. Muhammad stated that no constitution is perfect but disclosed that with sincere leadership and followership, where the love of the country is paramount, maintained is what Nigeria needs.

He however called on a constitution with amendments hinged on justice, fairness, equity and the rule of law, pointing out that the current clamour, like in the past will still run into hitch without sincere leadership.

” Having a State police and few others that people are agitating for is not out of place. Let equal rights, equity, fairness and Justice for citizens be what would address Nigeria’s real-time challenge”.

Hon. Muhammad mentioned problems such as poverty, food insecurity, and unnecessary killings without the culprits  being apprehended and prosecuted as some issues that will require amendment towards improving on the lives of the citizens.

He maintained that despite the repeated amendments to Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, lamented that no meaningful results has been achieved and able to address the country’s foundational Issue, insists on justice.

He described the nation’s constitution as a document and a “burden” to national development without sincere leadership, urged for a renewal of mind by citizens and followers as necessary ingredient.

The PDP Chieftain called for amendments that will define power separation, full autonomy for tiers and arms of government, called for ranching and grazing laws by the leaders to stem crisis in many State’s in the country.

Hon. Muhammed who stated that he remains the winner of the Kogi State PDP Congress held on 31st August, 2025, said only a brand-new, people-oriented constitution with the Judiciary made to be truly independent, can rescue Nigeria from its political, economic, and security crises.

“What we need is a brand-new constitution that is leadership and people-driven. You can’t amend a bad document when the leadership is not showing sincerity at all levels. A document that is already afflicted with an ailment cannot be amended if interest drives the process.

” No amount of State and Local Government, Ward creation will solve our problem. The more you create States and Local Government, the more you have agitation, because of injustice and people thinking they are above the law”.

“If you have a problem in your house — the building is cracking — how do you solve it? Some people say, ‘Let’s amend the present constitution.’ Amendment, one million times, cannot solve the problem,” called on the leaders at all levels to be sincere in the well-being of Nigerian.

Hon. Muhammad called for a people centred constitution that would not continue to promote over-centralisation of power in Abuja, crippling regional growth and autonomy.

Hon. Muhammed called for the application of the nation’s constitution to address Nigeria’s real-time problems, such as poverty, food insecurity, and killings, pointing out that Nigerians are suffering.

“ This greed for central power is killing the country. Let there be national unity, the PDP Chieftain urge President Bola Tinubu to take the lead in championing a new constitution through mind renewal, love for the country, justice and fairness, recalled the president’s past advocacy for constitutional reform wondered why he is dancing to call by few selfish political interest.

“Tinubu knows that thorough application of the constitution will solve our problems. In the past, he was one of those crusading for a people’s constitution, and if he does, he will be remembered in history more than for any other achievement during his tenure”.

” Let the National Assembly come to equity with clean hands and allow the full application of the constitution. No document is perfect, all the people need is sincerity of leadership, Hon. Muhammed  said.
