ODA Calls for Unity and Collaboration to Drive Development

The Okun Development Association (ODA) has presented a thought-provoking paper at the Okun Unity Summit in Kabba, emphasizing the crucial role of unity and collaboration in propelling development in Okunland. Hon. Dayo Akanmode, National Treasurer of ODA, delivered the paper on behalf of the National Executive Council, outlining strategic pillars for achieving unity, cohesion, and prosperity in the region.
The paper highlights the importance of fostering dialogue and reconciliation through regular consultative forums, establishing a Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation Committee, and encouraging inter-community exchange programs. Additionally, it stresses the need for cultural reawakening and identity promotion by showcasing Okun festivals, language, and traditions, and integrating Okun history and language into school curricula.
Furthermore, the paper emphasizes the significance of empowering youth and women through the creation of Youth and Women Development Councils, promoting entrepreneurship and skills acquisition, and recognizing the vital roles of women in the community. It also underscores the importance of political and economic collaboration by convening bipartisan political forums, developing economic clusters, and establishing sector-specific master plans.
In his presentation, Hon. Dayo Akanmode noted, “Let us replace suspicion with trust, rivalry with partnership, and personal ambition with a collective vision. Let us recommit—across clans, towns, and generations—to the greater Okun dream.”
The ODA calls on all stakeholders, including community leaders, youth, women, and diaspora communities, to join hands in promoting unity, cohesion, and development in Okunland. By working together and supporting the implementation of the strategic pillars outlined in the paper, the ODA believes that a brighter future for Okunland can be achieved.
