Alleged Ballot Box Snatching, Police Re- Issue Arrest Warrant For Anthony Aganmwonyi, others
The Edo State Police Command has re- issued Arrest warrant for one Anthony Aganmwonyi of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and others over ballot box snatching and destruction .
The Nigerian Post recalled that the Police had earlier declared Anthony Aganmwonyi and others wanted some days after the February 2023 presidential election.
It would be recalled that our reporter had in February reported an attack at Ogheghe Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government areas of Edo State, on the residents by alleged members of the youth wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as a result of an alleged snatching of ballot boxes by one Mr Anthony Agamwonyi with some members of his party PDP, in the area during the presidential election .
The recent Police declaration came up after some months of unsuccessful hunting for Anthony Agamwonyi and his co- hort.
According to a source who pleaded anonymity, the incident of ballot box snatching by the youth mobilizer, Mr Anthony Agamwonyi
and the members of the youth wing of his party, PDP, have always been a threat to the success of the APC in elections not only in ward 9 but the entire Ikpoba-Okha Local Government area which is supposed to be the stronghold of the APC.
He said when the youth mobilizer noticed that the presidential election was not going as planned in the favour of his party (PDP) in ward 9 Ogheghe Community, he mobilized other youths and attacked the polling centers and snatched the ballot boxes as the elections were still going on with other hoodlums and injuring several people in the process
With this development according to the source, the youth loyal to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the area went after them but could not succeed in retrieving the snatched ballot boxes from the said Anthony Agamwonyi and his cohorts
He added that this prompted the youths to mobilize and attacked his residence destroyed doors and windows, and threatened to kill him and any members of his family, coupled with the search for him by security agents on his alleged snatching of ballot boxes at ward 9 Ogheghe Community .
When the correspondent visited the known residents of the said Anthony Agamwonyi through the source the place was desolate and there was no one on ground to further give information on his whereabouts .
However, at the state police headquarters, the Police Public Relations Officer confirmed that a case of ballot box snatching on 25 February 2023 presidential election was reported on one notorious hoodlum, Mr Anthony Aganmwonyi and others who were alleged to have snatched ballot boxes from Ogheghe ward 9 and other wards in the area.
The Police have also issued a warrant of arrest for him and the others at large.”
