The governor of Cross River State, Apostle (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, says Cross River State government has entered into partnership with JR Farms, a multinational agribusiness firm, for the enhancement of coffee farming in Cross River State.
This was revealed in a post on his official Facebook page where he assured that the move will not only boost coffee production but also create jobs, increase state earnings and open up new opportunities for Cross Riverians.
Apostle Otu who was recently bestowed with the Governor of the Year Award in economic transformation by Independent Newspaper, has made agriculture one of his major priorities, thereby embarking on various agricultural reforms geared towards creating better opportunities for farmers in Cross River State.
In the Facebook post, the governor said: “I’m happy to share that our government has partnered with a French company, JR Farms, to boost coffee farming in Cross River State.
“We are giving out 5 million improved coffee seedlings (Arabica and Robusta) so that more farmers can plant and earn.
“These seedlings grow faster, produce more, and can bring in extra income, even during the off-season.
“This move will create jobs, increase what we earn as a state, and open up new opportunities for our people.
“We have trained 56 workers who will go from house to house starting May 26 to June 9, helping farmers register and form cooperatives so they can benefit fully from this program.
“We are working with Local Government Chairmen, councillors, designated religious and youth leaders to support and help spread the word.
“Let’s not miss this chance to grow Cross River and support our farmers.
