Kogi State Commissioner of Water Resources, Engineer Yahaya Farouk has called on residents of Lokoja metropolis to fix the broken service pipe lines in their various communities for a sustained supply of potable water.
Engineer Farouk made the call during water Stakeholders’ engagement meeting in Lokoja.
The meeting which was part of the ongoing efforts to sustain the restoration of supply of potable water in the state capital, attracted water stakeholders who converged at the Nigeria Union of Teachers Guest House Lokoja, to discuss a way forward on the need to continue to protect water facilities, as well as communities to fix broken individual service pipe lines.
Speaking at the meeting, Engineer Farouk said the essence of the meeting was to seek community Cooperation towards the protection of facilities and fixing of individual broken pipes, as the government is ready to supply water, lamented the challenge of water wastage through users’ broken pipes.
Engineer Farouk noted that the Ministry has worked on the Government’s transmission lines, appealed to members of communities to complement the effort of the government by fixing their broken service lines to enable the government serve them better.
On the supply of potable water to the people outside Lokoja metropolis, the Commissioner said budgetary line provisions have been made in that regard and assessment of water schemes has been done across the three senatorial districts, with revitalization being done gradually.
According to him, part of the Governor’s efforts to supply potable water to people of the rural areas, was the recent purchase of water drilling machine, appealing to the people to be patient, as they will soon have access to potable water in their various communities.
Speaking on the State of Greater Lokoja Water Works, Engineer Farouk explained that ninety percent of the electromechanical equipments in the water works are to be replaced, assuring that arrangements are ongoing for the restoration.
In a remark, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Water, Hon. Ohinoyi John Adams said Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has shown readiness to ensure the supply of water across the state and appealed to residents to cooperate with the government by fixing their broken pipes in their various communities.
On his part, the Executive Director of Conscience for Human Right and Conflict Resolution, Idris Miliki, called on the Government to ensure the extension of water supply to rural areas.
Some of the participants, secretary of workers village, Eniola Martins, and Abbas Yahaya from Kabawa community among others promised to ensure the fixing of individual service lines in their communities and appealed to the Government not to relent efforts.
