Kogi NUJ Chairman Describes safety as everybody’s business, partners Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria.
The Kogi State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comr. Seidu Ademu, has described safety as everybody’s business, urged for a concerted efforts by citizens in making the society a better place.
The NUJ Chairman, made the disclosure when he received in audience members of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria in his office, expressed the determination of the NUJ to collaborate with the Institute on issues of safety.
While pointing out that the time for citizens to begin to make safety a priority remains now, said this is in view of the several recorded accidents occuring at homes, work places and in the society that ordinarily is avoidable.
The NUJ Chairman promised the Union’s support in making citizens have full grasp of the activities of the Institute in the State as well as collaborate ensuring that citizens imbibe safety culture.
Earlier in his remarks, the State Coordinator of the Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, Husseini Salihu, said the Institute is empowered by an act of the Federal Government to check and ensure the adherence of safety in industries and corporate organizations.
The State Coordinator described safety as everybody’s responsibility, said the has Institute has already forwarded a memo to the State Head of office in line with the National policy towards the domestication of the law in the State.
The State Coordinator said rather than allowing for incidents to occur, the Institute is advocating prevention, said it intends to achieve this through tailored training for organizations and individuals, irrespective of their job schedules by ensuring that policy’s and guidelines for safety are maintained.
While pointing out that the purpose of the visit is to familiarize itself with the NUJ, towards helping it propagate it Institute’s objectives, said the Institute intends using it forthcoming Conference, holding in Lokoja, to train and create awareness amongst the people.
The theme of the conference which will hold on the 15th of May, 2025, the Coordinator disclosed is: “Strategic Safety Management, For Socio Economic Development of Kogi State”.
