NIPR Condemns Plateau Killings, Describes it as Barbaric, Unacceptable

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has condemned resurgence of attacks in Bassa, Bokkos, and Riyom local government areas of Plateau State leading to deaths of innocent residents, which it described as callous.

In a statement on Saturday personally signed by the Institute’s President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, he said NIPR is saddened that a once peaceful state has turned into a killing field where no value is attached to the sanctity of human life.

“It is to forestall this kind of sad situation that the NIPR in 2021 – 2022 organized the ‘Citizens Summit for National Integration, Peace and Security’, an initiative that came up with findings and solutions to address the problem of lack of peaceful co-existence among Nigerians.

Dr. Neliaku pointed out that the report of the summit, titled: “Rebooting Nigeria 2.0′ was made available to relevant arms of government, calling on governments across the country to take advantage of the practical recommendations and solutions contained in the Report.

While commiserating with the government and people of Plateau State, especially families who lost their loved once, NIPR urged security agencies to rise to the occasion and intensify efforts towards bringing the perpetrators of the murderous acts to book.

NIPR also called for more coordinated joint efforts among various stakeholders, including communities, security operatives and relevant agencies of government to forestall further bloodletting.

“We also encourage the Plateau State Government to continue to reach out to the affected communities, engage with relevant stakeholders, and initiate new strategies to deepen friendship and relationships on a more sustainable scale”, the statement added.
