All is now set for the 2024 coronation of the winners of Midwest Herald Achievers’ Award. The ceremony will hold at the iconic Cathelea Convention Centre in Benin City, Edo State capital, starting from 10AM.

The Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo is expected to host the ceremony which is the 22nd edition in series.

Key industry drivers, policy makers and administrators will pick a 3kg handcrafted bronze symbolic Key to the Midwest Region—the big heart and heart beat of Nigeria.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN will cart away the minister of the year award for transforming Nigeria’s airports and sanitizing the aviation industry; Senator Neda Imasuen will be honoured for his intrinsic approach to Women and Girl Child Development.

Prof Mike Ozekhome, SAN, will deliver the Investiture paper on “Democracy, Development and Nigerians,” and also pick an award as Defender of Democracy.

The irrepressible Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, former deputy governor of Edo State will be invested as the Politician of the Year 2024, after surviving the scare and scars of impeachment.

There are 10 other categories and winners to be announced and decorated.

Amidst the trouble, amidst the selfism, amidst the socioeconomic dislocation, amidst the dissolution of political ideology and amidst the skyrocketed corruption in governance and larger space, it has and will always be apt to asked: “Why should we search for famous people that do things differently?”

Our role as Press is to search, support and trumpet the Change Agents!

What sets them apart is their character and determination to become the “Change they long to See.”

We can all excel and attain fame and enjoy the merits without sacrificing the procedural old ‘fashion’ ethical values. But are there still people really like that? Or these are extremely unattainable parameters in Nigeria’s present clime?

To us in Midwest Herald, idols are deities, who are not only revered for their looks, their profusion and plenitude or voice, but their admirable work.

Midwest Herald Heroes are people we admire for their quality of character; actions that display courage, nobility and some fantastic achievements through measurable paths.

If we look discreetly, these Heroes and legends are all around us – pauthentic and fallible.
