Tax Reform Bills Committee interfaces with AGF, financial, taxation experts

The Senate Tax Reform Bills Reconciliation Committee, on Monday held a high-profile executive session with the Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and experts in the fields of finance and taxation at the National Assembly.

The chairman of the committee and Senate Minority leader, Comrade Abba Moro PhD, in his welcome address said the committee was set up by the senate to look into the grey areas in the Tax Reform Bills introduced by the president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCON, with a view to tackling the controversies generated by the bills.

Senator Moro said the committee was saddled with the responsibility of engaging the relevant stakeholders to properly advise the senate and the executives on the possible ways to adjust the bills in the face of the objections that have been raised by certain bodies and persons for a seamless law that will serve the interest of all Nigerians.

He urged committee members and invited guests to approach the meeting with open minds devoid of any sentiment, bias or suspicion.

The chairman expressed optimism that the committee would come up with acceptable recommendations to the senate, which will in turn advise the president on what to do for the country to have a tax bill that will serve the purpose of all Nigerians.

Invited guests to the Monday meeting included the Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Mr Zacch Adedeji; Chairman of Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, and Chairman of Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr Mohammed Bello Shehu.
