Lead by good examples, Catholic priest charges Christians
From Esther Akaa, Lafia
A Priest with the Catholic Diocese of Bauchi, Rev Fr (Dr) Williams Ochayi has called on Christians to be good examples of Jesus Christ by emulating Christ’s leadership style while carrying out their responsibilities.
Fr Ochayi gave the charge on Sunday at a Mass at St William’s Cathedral in Lafia, Nasarawa State .
The Priest who is also a lecturer at St. Augustine’s Major Seminary, Jos, Plateau State, noted that some leaders have become insensitive to the plights of those who elected them into various offices.
He said Christians in leadership responsibilities should prioritise the needs of the masses who, according to him, are currently facing difficulties.
The Priest added that the country was going through difficulties including insecurity, unemployment, hunger, poverty, among others which must be addressed by those in leadership positions for the overall well-being of the people.
He said:” We must be sensitive to the plights of our followers and address their needs but unfortunately, our leaders today are most concerned about their selfish interest.
” The drive by politicians to be elected into certain positions not for the interest of the people but for their own selfish interest can be compared to when Jesus was talking to His disciples about how He was going to suffer and die but they were insensitive and arguing about who was the greatest among them.
” We all desire and strive for the best but the motive behind what we want to achieve should be considered appropriately. It shouldn’t be because of prestige or fame but the interest to serve the people.
“For us to be good leaders, we must be ready to serve others just like Jesus said that He came to serve and not to be served.
The cleric also admonished husbands to love and support their wives just as Christ loves the church, urging them to be humble even as heads of the home.
He, therefore prayed God to grant the people the grace to be humble and serve others in order to gain eternal life.
