Jubilation in Nasarawa as Dambe Warriors showcase skills

There was jubilation Maraban Gurku, Karu Local Government Area ( LGA) of Nasarawa State as fans came out to in  cheer the  Dambe Warriors during the Dambe League Season 3 .

The league  provided a platform for young fighters to showcase their skills and learn from experienced champions.

Concert for Growth, an indigenous production company, promoted  this decade-old boxing sport to showcase African culture to the world.

Speaking at the  event held recently,   Co-convener of the league, Chidi Anyina,

said , “Our goal is to showcase our rich cultural heritage through traditional sports like Dambe.”

Anyina, a former Dambe champion, emphasised the importance of preserving African culture and traditions.

The Dambe Warriors League has attracted fans from across the country, all eager to witness the excitement of traditional boxing. Chidi Anyina, one of the victorious fighters, expressed gratitude to God for his victory over his opponent.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to showcase our culture through Dambe,” Anyina said. “We hope to continue promoting African culture and traditions through this sport.”

“The Dambe Warriors League is a platform to showcase our rich cultural heritage,” Anyina said. “We urge everyone to support us in preserving our traditions.”

Also speaking, Co-founder of Voice,

Anthony Okeleke,  noted that in the past, fighters would engage in face-biting to injure their opponents. “But such tactics are now illegal, and we focus on showcasing the sport’s cultural significance.”

Okeleke said fans can expect more thrilling matches and a deeper appreciation for African culture while also encouraging fans to support the league and embrace their cultural heritage.

“We are proud to be part of this initiative, and we look forward to seeing more exciting matches and cultural exhibitions,” sOkeleke said.

He further said the Dambe Warriors League has set a high standard for traditional sports in Africa, and it is expected to inspire other initiatives that promote African culture and traditions.

“This is a great achievement, and we hope to see more of this in the future.

” Dambe Warriors League has shown that traditional boxing can be a powerful tool for cultural promotion and economic development. As the league continues to grow, it is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of young fighters and the community at large,” he said.

In an interview with  The Voice, Muhammed Adamu , a fan from Lagos said:“I’ve never seen anything like this before. The cultural exhibitions are amazing, and the fighters are so talented.”

The lives of aspiring fighters and the community at large are anticipated to improve as the league expands.
