KOGI STATE BEST TEACHER FOR THREE CONSECUTIVE YEARS-UNSUNGED AND UNREWARDED- AN APPEAL TO KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT TO REWARD BEST TEACHER ON EARTH

Teaching is one of the noble professions ordained by God and good teachers are assured monumental rewards in heaven.

The impact of teachers in the life of any individual or nation cannot be underplayed but honourably and handsomely recognized and rewarded.

Abdullahi Bala Musa, a Lokoja born and bread teacher of exceptional and sterling pedagogical prowess has over the years proudly put Kogi State high on the educational map of Nigeria after emerging top out of 7,344 teacher applicants across 213 government and private schools in Kogi State to be crowned the best teacher (Maltina Teacher of the Year) 2018, 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Accordingly, Abdullahi Bala Musa who is a Government and Civic Education teacher with Rock N Gardens Group of Schools, Lokoja also emerged as Nigeria’s third best teacher of the year at the Maltina Teacher of the Year Award held at Eko Hotel Signatories in Lagos, in 2022. He also ranks as one of the top ten teacher contenders in the Global Teacher Prize (GTP) to be held in October at London Teachers House.

This timely write up is a follow up to the several promises or pledges made by the Kogi State Government specifically through the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology to His Excellences’, Kogi State Deputy Governor and Executive Governor of Kogi State respectively.

The write up was prompted by the fact that other teachers who emerged best for a year in other states in Nigeria have been accorded state welcome and hosting by the executive governors of the states, rewarded with cash prizes, cash and befitting teacher accommodation to boost their morale to achieve higher academic productivity and achievements.

This is thus a clarion call and appeal on Kogi State Government to strive to keep good teachers in government schools by rewarding exceptional teachers who have excelled in their different professional fields in order to avoid the drift of seasoned teachers to private schools or other lucrative spheres of life.

On this high note, a critical call of conscience is hereby made on Kogi State Government particularly His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, His Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja and the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Chief Wemi Jones to honour and make teachers in Kogi State live happily on earth before God Almighty accord them the ultimate reward in heaven.

This is highly important because where there are no good teachers in schools; the end product area children without character and a criminally corrupt society.

Finally, we look forward to Kogi State Government like other states of Lagos, Ekiti, Imo, and Adamawa to reward exceptional teachers to motivate and improve teacher productivity as well as attract new or potential teachers to Kogi State educational system.
Abdullahi Bala Musa,
Kogi State Teacher of the Year 2018, 2019 & 2020.
