In the spirit of the festive season, a former Secretary to the Kogi State Government Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede Jegede has distributed four wheels to Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kogi State.
The Philanthropist made the donation through a Non-Governmental Organization, Challenged Parenthood Initiative, (CPI).
Prof. Jegede, who is the Pioneer Vice Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria told journalists that there is ability in disabilities, hence the need to always show love to the needy in the Society.
The academia who is also commemorating the one-year demise of his Mother Mama Iwalewa Esther Jegede said the donated wheelchairs will assist the people living with Disabilities with the alternative means of movement.
According to the philanthropist, the gesture is also aimed at ensuring that the PWDs were not left behind in the society, adding that the gesture would enable the beneficiaries to attend school, seek greener pastures and become useful to themselves, families and communities.
Prof. Jegede used the medium to appeal to public spirited and well to do individuals to always remember the comity of PWD’s, just as he advised the beneficiaries not to see their disabilities as a kiss of death but a challenge waiting to be overcome.
In her remarks, the Executive Director of CPI Eunice Abimnola Agbogun thanked the former SSG for the gesture, noting that the organisation had also supported PWDs with wheelchairs in the past.
While commending the educationist for demonstrating his love for people across board in the State, Agboun, however, called on kogites and Nigerian to emulate the good gesture by putting smiles on the faces of PWD’s.
Some of the beneficiaries, Yunusa Aliyu, Ikayaja Sonia and Ife Azeez all thanked Prof. Jegede for remembering them in their trying period.
Meanwhile; the Challenged Parenthood Initiative, (CPI) has presented a deep freezer to one Miss Saratu Abdullahi, a PWD in Lokoja Local Government of Kogi State to help her business.
It could be recalled that, CPI in partnership with Lounge 1 Hospitality Centre, Lokoja had in August 2022 donated a wheelchair and the sum of fifty thousand naira only to Miss Saratu Abdullahi, a lady with physical disability in Lokoja to help her cope with the reality of life.
The Executive Director of CPI, Eunice Abimbola Agbogu while presenting the deep freezer to the lady noted that it was a fulfilment of her desire to put smiles on the faces of the vulnerable in society.
Agbogun disclosed further that her organization has been at the forefront in providing succor for the vulnerable and those with critical conditions to come back to their feet.
She added that there are lots of people suffering in society, urging public-spirited individuals, Government at all levels to rise up and support CPI to intervene in cases identified and enrolled.
She noted that thousands of people with disabilities are blessed with technical capacity and could contribute meaningfully to the development of the Country.
Reacting to the kind gesture, the father of the beneficiary Muhammed Abdullahi the CPI and its partners for bringing joy to the less endowed in the society.
While pleading with Nigerians to see something and do something to making the world a better place for all, Abdullahi admonished CPI to continue with the good works no matter the challenges,
In her part, the beneficiary, Miss Saratu Abdullahi, thanked the donors and prayed to God to help them in their own time of need.
