Kogi State former Commissioner For Rural Development, Hon Daniel One’ Ejigbo has dragged one Mikail Mohammed before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for alledging him of Murder.
The former Commissioner want Mikail Mohammed to substantiate his allegations that he Hon. Ejigbo was responsible for the death of two persons, ballot box snatching and electoral violence during the 2019 Kogi State Governorship election held in Abocho, Dekina LGA.
Mikail Mohammed had in a watts app group called BDDA National HQ Abocho on 14th November, 2022 made a false and libelous statement according to the former Commissioner, with the intention to injure his reputation that he is wicked, evil and a murderer.
The former Commissioner a writ of summons made available to Newsmen accused Mikail Mohammed of defamation of his character to the effect that he was responsible for the death of one Umar General and another person.
Hon. Ejigbo is therefore seeking an order as contained In the eighteen page writ of summons dated 19th December, 2022, signed by Ataguba S. Aboje Esq Legal Practitioner of A&G, want the defendants statements to the effect that he is wicked, dangerous, violent, a murderer and criminal as published in the watt’s app group be substantiated.
While pointing out that he has suffered psychological trauma, pain, shunned and vilified by some members of the community as a murderer amongst other allegations, is seeking an award of N1,000,000,000 general damages.
Hon Ejigbo wants the court to declare the statements about him which the claimant published on watts app group as false and amount to libel.
The former Commissioner is equally seeking an order awarding N1,000,000,000 as general damages against the defendant.
Hon. Daniel is equally seeking an order to perpetually restrain the defendant from further publishing further untrue statement about the matter.
Similarly, an order directing the claimant to delete the libelous statement from his page and to publish a retraction and an apology, and another order awarding N3,000,000 as cost of the action as well as awarding 30% interest per annum on the judgement sum.
Hon. Ejigbo described the allegations against hi as false and baseless, said the defendant failed to offer an apology and retraction to address the harm the libelous statement has caused him.
